A Forum to Commemorate World Press Freedom Day on 3rd May 2011

This year in order to commemorate World Freedom Day 2011, Asian Institute for Development Communication and Universiti Selangor have jointly organised a Forum based on the theme: 21st Century Media: New Frontiers, New Barriers as put forward by UNESCO.

The freedom of press demonstrates significant traits within basic human rights such as the freedom of expression and speech without which one is unable to obtain a satisfactory overview. It promotes a just and democratic society within which all voices of color, race, and religion may be heard, therefore becoming the basis for political stability. This concept is particularly important today where the problem of a lack of understanding, communication, and integration not only hinders development at a national level but also threatens the safety of journalists.

The Keynote Address will be given by Amina Gamil Khairy, Features Editor, Al Hayat International Daily Newspaper, Cairo, Egypt. This will be followed by a Panel Discussion.

Admission is free. For more information, please contact Aidcom at Tel: 03 – 2287 0023.
